FAQs
Steps in Physiotherapy Assessment and Diagnosis
  • Patient Interview: Collect detailed information about the patient’s medical history, including previous injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, and family health history.
  • Current Symptoms: Document the nature, onset, duration, and intensity of the current symptoms. This includes pain levels, functional limitations, and any factors that exacerbate or alleviate the symptoms.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Discuss the patient’s daily activities, occupation, exercise routines, and lifestyle habits that might influence their condition.
  • Observation: Observe the patient’s posture, gait, and any visible deformities or abnormalities.
  • Palpation: Feel for tenderness, swelling, temperature changes, and muscle tone in the affected area.
  • Range of Motion (ROM): Measure the active and passive range of motion in the affected joints using a goniometer or other tools.
  • Strength Testing: Assess muscle strength and endurance using manual muscle testing (MMT) or dynamometers.
  • Functional Tests: Perform specific functional tests relevant to the patient’s condition, such as balance tests, gait analysis, or specific movement patterns.
  • Special Tests: Conduct orthopedic or neurological tests to identify specific conditions (e.g., McMurray’s test for meniscal injury, Spurling’s test for cervical radiculopathy).
